Platform:Activation code in box | Edition:1PC 1 Year Product Description AVG Secure VPN Virtual Private Network (VPN) gives you a secure and private connection to unrestricted internet access. It does that by encrypting your connection so nobody can snoop on your online activity. The result? Secure and private access to any site - anywhere, anytime. That's your favourite sites, shows and subscription services all with uncensored access.Antivirus software protects your devices but a VPN service protects your internet connection. You might think you don't need to download a VPN but without one you're wide open to cyber criminals, advertisers and even your internet service provider snooping on your browsing activities. Here's why.■ True privacy - An encrypted connection means nobody can track what you do online. Not your ISP, boss or even the government. Yes really.■ High security - Online banker? Our military grade encryption levels keeps your data secure on any device, even if you're using public Wi-Fi. Just the way it should be.■ Unrestricted access - A VPN means no content blocks, no matter where you're located. Meaning you can enjoy your favourite shows and subscription sites anytime, anywhere.■ Stay safe on Public Wi-Fi - Browsing the web for free is great, right? Wrong. Public Wi-Fi is so insecure a child could hack it. A VPN secures your connection on free Wi-Fi so you can even transfer money safely.■ Avoid censorship abroad - Abroad and can't access your emails, social media or subscription services? Connect using a VPN and choose to appear in your home country for instant access.■ Access blocked content - At work and find yourself blocked from Facebook? Who are we to judge. A VPN means workplace content blocks are a thing of the past.Once you switch on AVG Secure VPN and connect your Windows device to the internet you're instantly protected. How? Well, when you connect our VPN software for Windows we give you one of our IP address instead of your own (your IP is the unique code that identifies your device). Which means if anyone comes snooping they can only see our server address. Pair that with military grade encryption levels of 256 bit AES standards and there you have it. Instant online privacy at the click of a button. Box Contains Card containing License Key/Activation Code and Installation instructions.

Simple but slow...
This Secure VPN from AVG is very much focussed on one particular job, keeping your data private on a public network, and on only one Windows computer. It's worth pointing out that for a similar price you can get VPN's that can protect multiple devices and multiple platforms at once. Indeed you can buy a more flexible offering from AVG that would include protection for your Mac OS, Android and iOS devices too, so why you'd pick this very limited package that's Windows-only I'm not sure. This Secure VPN solution reminds me a lot of the cut-down VPN services that come bundled with security software like Kaspersky or built-in to browsers like Opera - that is a basic on/off VPN with no configuration options. Although, like most VPN solutions, this one is based on OpenVPN and other open-source software you are given no access at all to the configuration settings and all you can choose is the geographic location you want to connect through and then flip the on/off switch. The preset settings are good, with 256bit AES encryption (many VPN's default to 128bit) enabled as standard but you can't change that even if you wanted to. There's also no kill-switch and no option to enable it. You can choose from a good range of international locations but you can't switch to them without opening the main app window - most VPN's put the list into the Toolbar menu to allow quick switching, but not this one. The app pops up notifications to advise you when the VPN connection is lost or established but they're so slow to appear they're usually redundant by the time you see them.As mentioned this VPN is very geared toward protecting you on a public network, which is admittedly what most people will want it for, and the default settings enforce this. It's set to auto-enable when you connect to a public or unknown network, which is useful, but this also means it switches off automatically when connected to your home network, although you can override those settings if you want. If you do use it on your home network you may find it blocks access to other devices on the local network -- for example Spotify Connect can't always find my wireless speakers -- and there's no option to override that.Worst of all, it's slow to connect to websites, really slow. It's not unusual to be waiting for 15 to 30 seconds for a website to first connect, although after you've established contact with a domain it loads at a decent speed from then on. This could imply there are serious DNS issues and perhaps they're unique to me (I generally use OpenDNS) but I haven't had this issue with any other VPN's I've tried. There are some good features too, for example in the list of international locations those that are compatible with P2P or optimised for video streaming are marked, which could be handy. It also loads quite early when you restart your PC so it's ready and connected quite quickly - other VPN's I've tried are always the last to load and keep you waiting for a usable connection. Still this is an expensive option when all you're getting is a single Windows PC for one year and you can get much better deals, including from AVG themselves. If you want a simple on/off VPN for occasional use then it's easy to use but if you ever need to tweak the settings you can't. Personally I can't forgive the delay in connecting to unvisited websites, which is a deal-breaker for me, but I acknowledge that might just be my problem. What's certain is that you can get much more flexible and useful VPN solutions without spending any more than this and I'd shop around before buying this one.

A VPN is Now Essential In My Opinion.
These days I'd recommend all device users install a VPN - especially if you use online banking, make online purchases or use public wifi networks. This offering from AVG is a basic one, but keeping it simple is good if you want a fuss free product. It can be switched on and forgotten about if you like, and I use mine all the time. The only adjustment necessary is the occasional selection of a different server - say, and American one, if I wish to view some US based news feeds which are otherwise blocked to Europeans. Depending on traffic there may be a slight decrease in speed at times, but switching servers usually fixes that, and it's a small price to pay for privacy.A VPN works by encrypting everything going to and from your computer over the internet, and instead of communicating directly with your ISP, as would usually happen, it routes your encrypted internet traffic via the VPN providers own secure servers. That way, your network provider only sees you visiting the secure server, nothing else. Your ISP has no idea what sites or web pages you are visiting from there either, so no log will exist of your browsing history, except on your computer itself. This can be of special importance to anyone living in countries with poor human rights and low levels of political or personal freedom, as the authorities have no way of tracking your internet history.A VPN matters to us in the West too, because we often use internet cafe's and free wifi. A VPN stops the wifi provider sitting there watching everything you do online and harvesting all your information! So, don't use free wifi without one! Also, your internet traffic travels through several nodes whilst it goes back and forth, and any of those nodes can record your data. With a VPN all a snooper would see is a meaningless encrypted signal, again, keeping you safe. With so much identity theft and electronic crime going on now I see a VPN as essential for all. Just make sure you purchase your VPN service from a reputable company, because they're the ones holding the key to your data feed encryption. This is a single computer, one year licence, that works only on your Windows pc. Twenty pounds is a reasonable amount to ask, but I would personally opt for the five licence version of the same product that costs £65 per year and protects your Mac and smartphones too. If your device is connected to the internet, protect it!

A simple but very easy to set and forget VPN.
AVG Secure VPN 2019 - 1 PC 1 Year|2019 Windows Edition|1 Device|1 Year|PC|DownloadThe product. This arrives as a card with a website address and pin number. You go onto the website on the back of the card and download your copy. You have to register with AVG and put in the pin on the card to secure the one-year subscription. What it does. This product encrypts everything you send out onto the internet so the data cannot be caught by hackers etc. I think it is a pretty essential piece of software to have on top of a virus checker and firewall these days.Features.This is a very simple VPN (virtual private network) but that in my mind is a good thing. You can set it to on and leave it and that’s it, you are protected for one year on one machine with this version. AVG do a monthly subscription version that will work with more than one machine, phone and / or tablet.Speed.On my new i7 based machine it has minimal impact on speed but you may find it slows your system down slightly on older machine. However, for the protection if you do lots of financial and / or private transactions it’s well worth it. It is easy to turn it on and off if you need to.Overall.A simple but very effective piece of protection software that works alongside you other protection. Quick and simple to use. Recommended if you do a lot of work on the net where security is important.
