READ BEFORE INITIAL SET-UP TO SAVE HEADACHE
The instructions that come with the printer are garbage, the only useful thing was the website to go to to set-up on your device. There is a website for computer users and QR codes for iPhone and Android users which take you to your designated app store to download the Canon PRINT application. Computer users will have to download the required software before connecting to the printer, following the link provided in the instruction manual takes you to download and installation instructions.THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PARTThe manual included with the printer wasn't helpful at all if you weren't able to connect per their instructions. If a light wasn't flashing for the network, instructions said to just go back to and earlier step and start over. THE WEBSITE however gave detailed instructions for what to do if your network lights weren't blinking or if there were other issues. I tried to summarize the entire process the best I could below.Long story short - just go to the website and you will be so much happier. The quality of hte printing though is great, I'm very very happy with how the printer works after I was finally able to get it set up.TO SUMMARIZE SETTING UP- unbox printer- remove all tape/plastic- plug in- power on- go to desktop website to download needed software for computer and/or download Canon Print app for phone- Once programs/apps installed successfully - look to see if the network light is blinking. FOR ME THIS WAS BLINKING AT FIRST BUT MY PHONE WASN'T ABLE TO FIND THE PRINTER - AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO FIND THE PRINTER WITH MY PHONE THE NETWORK LIGHT STOPPED BLINKING. The manual instructed me to go back to the instructions telling me to remove the tape after unpacking - useless.- IF NETWORK LIGHT NOT WORKING OR IF IT STOPS WORKING ----- PRESS AND HOLD THE DIRECT BUTTON FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN RELEASE - looks like a smart phone/tablet - NETWORK LIGHT SHOULD BEGIN BLINKING.- FOR ME I had issues setting up initially on just my phone so I went to the website and did the installation via my laptop. I was prompted to enter my printer's information to locate the right software to download right from the site.- Setting up software on MacBook Pro took moments- The computer couldn't locate the printer on the network so I was given alternative steps to what to try - this is where the suggestion of the direct button came.- PRESS/HOLD DIRECT BUTTON UNTIL NETWORK LIGHTS BLINKS- computer was able to locate the printer and connect to it- AFTER FULLY INSTALLED ON COMPUTER/LAPTOP THEN PUT IT ON YOUR PHONE VIA THE CANON PRINT APP

It's small, it prints, it's a good deal.
Just needed a small printer for very basic jobs. Didn't want anything expensive or with too many bells and whistles, just a wireless connection.Setup was relatively easy - connecting to phone went by without a hitch. It took a couple tries from my PC but it still wasn't much of a hassle. For $40 I really can't complain about anything - if you just want to print on basic paper every now and then, this is really all you'll need.

After You Get This Setup, Best Printer I've Ever Owned
Hello,I bought an Epson off Amazon previous to this machine and just through it away due to quality and ink costs. Took a gamble on this one because of excellent reviews and I'm super impressed. Its stable, fast, cheap ink and amazing quality!Just wanted to say a few words about this printer because its a little strange to setup because there is no digital interface. However, the printer does have an IP interface however that works very well. That is the key to getting through the setup. Here is how I set up the machine:Just follow the instructions up through installing the ink. Then, press the last button on the printer for the "printer information" sheet to printFind the ip to the printer.Put the ip in your browser, press enter.Turn off the administrator password, use the password "canon" to do so. You will be prompted.Go into the network settings and set a static ip! This is the most critical aspect.Set this ip in your printer driver settings instead of the crappy dns record they use that only works half the time.Install the cell phone app if you wish. All done! Let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy. Seriously excellent printer.

Perfect for printing every once in a while
If you are looking for an affordable printer to print every once in a while. It comes with one black and one color cardridge. It’s wireless, and I had almost no connectivity issues with Mac and Windows. However, if you are volume printing, I don’t recommend it at all. For ref, the black cardridge that came in the box lasted about 50-60 pages.

Terrible software. Okay-ish Printer.
Setting the printer up for phone usage was somewhat easy, though not entirely painless. However, setting the printer up for wireless usage for PC usage was so frustrating that after 40 minutes of effort I finally decided to just use the USB cable to set it up that way instead. The software was 'installing, please wait' for 15+ minutes with no progress bar in sight. I finally cancelled the software installer and clicked 'troubleshoot'. Well, when you click 'troubleshoot', Canon apparently thinks it's perfectly normal and you should just continue to wait. And that's all it says. VERY helpful....Luckily, Windows finally decided to randomly recognize the Printer via USB, it just took a few tries. Maybe the software or driver partially installed enough for that to happen, I'm not sure. However, now the printer is informing me that my black ink is low.... I've printed maybe 10 pages at most (from my smartphone) and they were NOT ink heavy pages at all. If you were to write a page of text and print that off, that would have used probably three times as much ink as I've used.I don't think I've ever owned a decent printer in my life and this one is no different, but at least with the others I could get their basic functionality working within 15 minutes. I've spent well over an hour with this one just for it to work over USB.Buy at your own risk.
