This is an interesting collection of stories more or less based on real life historical characters. My Mother really enjoyed reading this one-of-a-kind or atleast a first for us very well written book. Definitely recommend.

If you are looking for light reading... then this is the book... there are few lines in the book which has deep meaning....

भर दुपारची वेळ! त्यात उन्हाळा... अंगाची लाहीलाही करणारी गर्मी...खिडकीतून बाहेर बघितल्यावर समोर दिसणारं ओसाड माळरान, त्यावर झगमगणाऱ्या उन्हाच्या झळा आणि तिथं असलेला एक पिंपळ ज्याची सगळी पानं झडून गेल्याने त्यातून पलीकडे दिसणारा डोंगर, त्या पिंपळाच्या खोडाच्या सावलीत बसलेली गाईगुरे त्यांच्या शेजारीच कपाळाला हात लावून बसलेला शेतकरी अस काहीसं चित्रं मला माझ्या खिडकीतून दिसलं, त्या झाडावर एका सुध्दा चिटपाखरू दिसलं नाही अशा वेळी अचानक वारा सुटला... माळरानावरची माती उडू लागली, एकाएकी काळे ढग दाटू लागले आणि पाण्यासाठी आसुसलेली धरणी त्या पहिल्या पावसाच्या थेंबांनी मोहरुन गेली... जणू काही कित्येक जन्मानी तिला तिच्या पहिल्या प्रेमाची भेट असावी... क्षणातच असा काही मातीचा सुगंध दरवळू लागला की त्यापुढे माणसाची मती गुंग व्हावी सारी अत्तरे फिकी पडावी असा तो दरवळ आणि माझ्या समोर असलेलं नुकतंच वाचून काढलेलं ''गंधाली" हे रणजित देसाई यांचं पुस्तकं... या दोन्ही गोष्टी मध्ये मला एकच साम्य जाणवलं... अस्सल भारतीय मातीत घडलेल्या काहीश्या विस्मरणात गेलेल्या अजरामर प्रेमकथा! यांचा दरवळ भारतीय जनमानसात शतकं उलटली तरी टिकून आहे. प्रेमासाठी आयुष्य पणाला लावणारे सलीम- मेहरूंन्निसा, बाजीरावांच्या मृत्यू नंतर विष प्राशन करणारी मस्तानी, आपल्या बुद्धिचातुर्याने ने पेशवे दरबार जिंकणारी माहेलका, एका अस्सल कलावंताच्या जीवनाचा सूर झालेली चुन्ना, आपल्या स्नेहाने इतरांचे आयुष्य उजळणाऱ्या पुतळाबाई अशा इतिहासाच्या पानांमध्ये लुप्त झालेल्या प्रेमकथा तुम्हाला प्रेमाची नव्याने ओळख करून देतील....मन गहिवरून जाईल... वेदनेची कळ येईल... खरोखरच लेखकाचे शब्द वाचकाच्या मनाचा ठाव घेतात ..आपण कितीही म्हणालो "प्रेम म्हणजे प्रेम असतं, तुमचं आमचं सेम असतं" तरी प्रेमाचा गंध आणि प्रेमाची गोष्ट वेगळीच!!

There are 5 different stories in the book. All are good in their own form. They have different fragrance as the name suggests. The book keeps you involved in the stories.

There is no comparison to the writer and book. Excellent book by Ranjeet Desai! Only issue is with printing. Pages are not aligned. Many pages printed here and there.

Classic book on historical love stories. While reading, you can feel the power of words.The historical story writing is great task.Ranjeet Desai surely did it.Master piece by Great Marathi Author.
