It mashes well, but the rest is pretty bad.
The metal is pretty thick and we haven't had issues through dozens of dishes of potatoes, guac or refried beans with the business end bending or loosening, so that part is good. That's about all that is good, though. The handle, which is reasonably comfortable but could stand to be a little chunkier, is the main bad spot. It was never well attached/glued/whatever to the masher part. It's clearly not designed to be removed as, when it first happened, I could see some kind of adhesive in there that washed right out but read on to see why it really NEEDS to be removed after each use.The way we figured this problem out is that on the second use, I noticed that as the handle warmed up from my hand, it was dripping out and would have gone into the food if I'd given it a chance. The handle was pretty hard to pull off the first time but when I did, about a half ounce of old dishwasher water splashed out. Mildly traumatic. So if you wash the thing with the handle on, it will take on water, hold it and let it fester then drip it out the next time you're mashing things. The part of the handle needs to come off even if we hand wash the masher and it's actually pretty tough to make sure that nothing remains up inside the handle. I can also feel it getting more and more loose every time the handle is pulled off and reinstalled, so it's only a matter of time before it's useless. If you don't mind the extra steps of doing something that you shouldn't have to do in the first place, keeping track of the removed handle 'till everything dries out and then reinstalling the handle, it should work OK for you.If you have a friend who really likes collecting contamination sources, this would make a fun gift!If you like something that is a good product, look elsewhere.

Great
I use it to smash up my dogs food. Works great. I needed one smaller than a normal potato masher

Great for guac
This works great on avocados, but not sure how it would hold up for mashing potatoes. It seems a little flimsy

Great beans Masher
Mainly I'm going to use it to smash canned beans. I've already used it and it's awesome. Seems even sturdier than I thought it would be. I'm very happy with my purchase so far.

Bean Masher Whopee
I did not use this for a bean masher, but it would work for that. I did use it for mashing my fresh blackberries into a nice juice to make jelly. Worked great, and also worked great for the blueberries, and figs I made into jellies and preserves.ThanksSandy H

Stiffer than it looks
I bought this for smashing black beans but was concerned about how strong the head would be, it looked bendy to me in the pics. After receiving and using it I can say that is not a concern!
