Smiffy's Roahl Dahl Matilda outfit came presented in a large plastic packet with poppers at the back. The packaging is clear so the product can be seen folded up inside. Inside there is a cardboard slip which shows the brand and product name along with a photo of a child wearing the costume and a cartoon drawing of Matilda. The packaging seems nice and strong and I have been able to put the costume back away inside so it is kept safe for next year.The outfit is available in two sizes:Medium: 8 - 10 yearsLarge: 10 - 12 yearsThe set itself consists of a dress, a 'book' and a newt. I purchased a pair of white tights and a red hair band to complete the look. My daughter just wore her usual black school shoes which worked well and looked the part.The dress itself is blue in colour and made from 100% polyester, my daughter said she found it comfortable to wear and did not complain that it felt itchy or scratchy on her skin. Feeling the material now I can confirm that it is soft to touch.My daughter is nearly thirteen years old and quite petite for her age, the dress came up slightly big on her which surprised me slightly considering the age recommendation given. However, it wasn't overly big to the point it looked silly, it was just a little long and baggy. For those with petite children at the bottom recommended age I think it may be worth while considering the medium size instead. I feel confident that the outfit will still fit my daughter this time next year.The dress itself looked good on my daughter and I felt it was obvious who she was meant to be. The dress has long sleeves and puffed out shoulders, it is quite long in length reaching below my daughters knees.I was more than happy with the quality of the dress, my daughter wore it all day and it remained in excellent condition with no pulls or fraying to the material or stitching. I have had bad experiences with children's fancy dress outfits in the past, more often than not they just fall apart within hours. So I was pleased that this was not the case in this instant.The label does have a washing care logo on it, but in all honesty I have no idea what this logo is suppose to mean. (This is the case for all washing logos not just this specific outfit). One day I will have to learn what all the different logos actually mean on labels! There were a few marks on the dress when my daughter came home from school so I decided to bung it in a 30 degree wash and hope for the best. I figured considering it was polyester it would be fine. Thankfully the dress washed well and it is still in excellent condition. Although how it would fair with multiple washes only time will tell. I think it is worth noting that the dress dried incredibly quickly, in fact it was pretty much dry straight out of the machine.Accessories wise the set comes with a 'book' and newt. The book itself is fake it does not open, it is simply just a cardboard box made to look like a book. The 'book' has gold swirls on the front along with Great Expectations written on the front, although I think Moby Dick would have been a more apt choice considering it is referenced in both the Matilda book and film. The cardboard is thick and durable, there are a few dents and creases in it after a days use but nothing I wouldn't expect really. The newt is green, it is rubbery and squidgy to touch. It has a long stretchy tail, my daughter enjoyed holding it by its tail and recreating the famous newt scene.I would certainly recommend this Smiffy's Roahl Dahl Matilda outfit to others, whether it be for World Book Day, Roahl Dahl Day, a costume party or simply for dressing up fun at home.

My daughter was very excited to receive this for World book day. It doesn’t come with white tights. She was pleased with the pretend book and little newt. It looked really good on and very authentic. However she only ended up wearing it for an hour as she said the inside of the dress or the seam was uncomfortable. Real shame as she was so excited .

Received this ready for Book Day 2022. Good quality, fit brilliantly and loved the added book and newt. Thought it would be thin so surprised. Daughter so happy and can’t wait to wear it. Super delivery too.

When you contact Smiffys via the link on your 'My Orders' page they just give you the brush off. My daughters Matilda costume arrived without the Newt. It states clearly that it should have one. How can you have a Matilda costume without the Newt! Other reviews on here also state their Newt was missing. I contacted Smiffys via the supplied link on my order and they said they can only deal with orders via their website, not Amazon. I should contact the seller on Amazon. They ARE listed as the seller on Amazon and the seller link goes to their website. Awful service. I needed this for World Book Day. I now have to spend more money getting a rubber newt via another seller on Amazon for more money. Not how I expected to be spending my time, but here we are. This is a shame, this is the second Smiffy outfit I have bought for my daughters. I truly didn't want it to be the last. Amazon should do something about this.

Bought for my daughter for world book day. Fit very well and material didn't look cheap. The cardboard book and newt added a great touch to the overall look. Very impressed.
