UPDATED REVIEW FROM 3 STARS
The cones that come with it are not marked so you don't know what scent they are.The cones that come with it only burn for about five minutes. The smoke from the incense likes to travel, especially if there is ANY movement at all whatsoever in the room. However, if you don't move around, the smoke DOES ACTUALLY fill the pool. It does flow over the ledge, and pools before it dissipates. It is a cute decoration item, if you like that esthetic. Could be filled with something else, I'm sure (crystals, glitter, sand, beads, pearls, etc.) Or you could paint it, if you were so inclined, and use it as a jewelry/key/change holder.

Smaller than it looks
For some reason, this looked larger on screen. However, it is cute and does what it is advertised for, which is to allow the incense to flow down onto the fish. I didn't find the amount of smoke to equal that in the advertisement but that may be due to the incense purchased. The incense burns quite fast and lasts one to two minutes and leaves an oily residue. I've experimented and found by adding water to where the fish are swimming makes the smoke look thicker and fills out the area around the fish better. I enjoy using the incense burner and will purchase other backflow burners since this works so well.

Pretty Small. Smoke doesn’t fill the pools.
The media could not be loaded. My boyfriend bought me this as a Christmas gift and I was happy to have this beauty but It’s smaller than what the picture depicts and the incense cones that come with it have no scent. It just smells like burning paper. The duration of the cone doesn’t even fill the pools of the piece. By the time the cone has burned out the smoke hasn’t even reached the koi pond.

The smell of the included cones is intolerable
I came across these backflow burners when I was looking for regular incense cones. I bought this burner, which came with a few backflow incense cones. I was intrigued by the way the smoke flows downward like water, and the burner looks and burns incense exactly as shown in the photos. Very pretty and fascinating to watch! Now for the bad part. The backflow incense has the foulest smell imagineable. I burned it in an upstairs bedroom with the door closed, and it still made my entire house reek for days. I immediately opened all of the windows and turned on some fans to try and air out the house. Even this didn't help much. The smell was in upholstery fabric, clothing, anything permeable that was in the house. I could smell it for at least a week, and it was so nauseating I felt like I was going to throw up. The smell of regular incense has never bothered me, but these backflow cones are disgusting. I had to return the whole thing for a refund. Maybe another brand of cones might be better, but I'm not willing to risk it, and it's a shame because the actual burner was lovely, which is the only reason I gave more than one star. If you are familiar with backflow incense and you can tolerate the smell, by all means buy this pretty little burner. Just be forewarned that the smell is intense, much more than the traditional, non-backflow cones.

Beautiful but need other cones!!
Absolute love the backflow effect and the incense burner itself is beautiful! The sandalwood scent smells good for about two seconds then it smells like campfire in your entire home! The hole to hold a stick incense is very large and doesn’t hold up very well but because I love the the backflow itself I just cut my stem and double it in the hole. Works for me. I wish there was an option for other scents in the cones and this one is horrible and I absolutely love sandalwood!

burner smelled AWFUL
I used backflow cone incense and put it at the top where it's supposed to float down the rocks and into the pond with the fish. After a little while the resin on the burner was heating up as the smoke slowly trickled down and it smelled terrible. It was not the incense because I've burned this incense before and it smelled nothing like that. This was a burnt chemical smell that filled the whole house. Made us cough, choke and eyes water. I haven't used it in 2 days and I can still smell the smell when I walk by the burner in the house. I'm not sure how to fix this other than either washing or baking. I would think twice before buying this one.

Soothing to watch
It is amazing to watch the smoke flow down into the bottom of this little gizmo. I uses scented cones and it's very calming to watch.
