US Navy F-4 Phantom II MiG Killers 1972-73, Part 2 (Osprey Combat Aircraft, No. 30)

These series fill a hole in history but...
Ok, my Dad's famous warbird, "showtime 100" is featured in this book so I have a slight bias about this book but it still misses the 5 star rating for me. The long successful history of this plane should have included how much money we spent on these, why the manufacturer was slow to install guns, and why this design was never replicated or developed beyond this effort (wing and tail design are still unique). Good resource for additional effort that we hope will be written some day...

Good air combat book
I liked the book very much. I am a aviation buff and a vietnam vet. While in vietnam I had first hand observation of the F-4 Phantom in action. It was a very impressive aircraft. I would recomend this book to anyone who is interested in fighter aircraft and the pilots that fly them.

Duke and Rich did a great job defeating a Mig
Outstanding book on an outstanding fighter aircraft. Duke and Rich did a great job defeating a Mig. Excellent read on two America heros. I just wish Duke Cunningham had done better in life.

Great book! A must for enthusiasts of the air war over North Vietnam, in particular the US naval operations off Yankee Station in the Tonkin Gulf. Turn and burn baby, sierra hotel!!

Best of the best
Osprey publications are often the best of their type; detailed with interesting photographs, lovely colour plates, top quality research and good clear writing. This one however captures the combats' excitement and danger even better than most whilst remaining accurate and informative... a top quality read on the subject and highly recommended.

Does what it says on the cover.
As the engagements are declassified, more on the actual maneuvering, speeds and heights, throttle setting etc would be welcome.DCS players try to recreate this stuff all the time.

Good Value History
As with most Ospreys in this series it deals with the great and lucky pilots of the type and period, with plenty of colour views for the modeller.

Bad reprint of a great book
As with Osprey USN F-4 vs VNAF Mig-17 book, this is again a bad reprint. Images are even bad, very, very granulated. Profiles are granulated too, nothing comparable to other original books from Osprey.I will return it and look for second hand items.
