fun read
Pretty darned common knowledge. The history chapter really was interesting and informative, but nothing new. The saving grace was the information about electric bicycles. I am so inspired that I'll electrify one for my Wife.

A Whirlwind Tour of Motorized Bicycles
Maybe you've been seen these motored bike buzzing around town where you live, and you've been curious about them. I was, so I bought this book. Tom Bartlett gets you up to speed, quick, and I'll bet even experts will learn a thing or two.Motorized bicycling is a rapidly evolving field. Bartlett, while he does touch on the current scene, does not try to cover the plethora of options available today. The strength of this book is as a history book. For example, did you know that the first motorcycles actually were motorized bicycles? Also, one of the most popular styles of motorized bike, available in kit form from China, is based on a design from the USSR in the 30s? I didn't.I loved the pictures in this book. It is lushly illustrated that way, and it's worth it just for that. The author, by the way, had a business making one kind of motorized bike for a while. He tells you his own story too. If you want to find out all the gritty details of every possible build type, and learn how to troubleshoot these machines, you'll need to get on the active web forums for that. This book is not for that, but for the grand sweep of history? Great book.

... is by far one of the most interesting and fun books on the topic of Motorized bicycles
This is by far one of the most interesting and fun books on the topic of Motorized bicycles: both the history and development of them and the early motorcycles... My only complaint is the lack of detail in many of the pictures and old Ads.... There VERY blurry and unreadable......

ok
This book gleans some information and casual wisdom, but it suffers pretty badly for its cranky-greasemonkey writing style.I already knew almost everything in the book before i read it. It's an ok book if you know nothing about motorized bicycles.

Good Book, Cool Pictures
The only reason it does not get 5 stars is because I was looking for something more technical. However that being said this book is great, it shows a little known part of motor vehicle history. It also contains pictures of old advertisements for such motors like the whizzer. Over all this is a very good book to add to my collection.
